The PSMA Why Your Country Should Ratify Now

Illegal fishing accounts for up to $23.5 billion worth of seafood per year, or one-in-five wild-caught marine fish. To get to market, all of those stolen fish must come through a port somewhere in the world. One way to stop illegal fishing is to make it far more difficult for illicitly caught fish to pass through ports undetected. The Port State Measures Agreement, or PSMA, accomplishes that by strengthening and harmonizing port inspection protocols for fishing vessels. The United Nations treaty will take effect once 25 bodies have ratified it. Do your part: Ratify the PSMA today.
