PROFILE

Tom Wathen leads Pew’s environmental policy initiatives in the United States and across the globe. Wathen previously served as a Pew program officer working on forest protection, marine conservation, and trade policy.

Before joining Pew, he was executive vice president and general counsel of the National Environmental Trust and served as acting president of Oceana. Wathen has held positions with nongovernmental organizations and was a consultant to the Rockefeller Family Fund and the Environmental Grantmakers Association. He was also executive director of public interest research groups in New York, Colorado, and Indiana.

Wathen holds a bachelor’s degree in public affairs and a certificate in environmental policy from Indiana University and a Juris Doctor from Harvard University.
