Pew Supports Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment Act
Bill would expand access to drugs and other care to combat opioid use disorder
On Dec. 3, The Pew Charitable Trusts’ substance use prevention and treatment initiative submitted a letter to U.S. congressional leaders requesting that they support the Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment (MAT) Act, H.R. 2482 and S. 2074. This bipartisan legislation would remove federal rules that require health care practitioners to obtain a waiver from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) before prescribing buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD). This legislation will help expand access to life-saving care by eliminating a significant barrier to treatment faced by Americans battling OUD.
