Research
Our lab is interested in the cells that are responsible for laying down the fibrous scar in all types of chronic liver disease. We focus on understanding the molecular pathogenesis of fibrotic liver disease and the genetic basis of liver disorders as the foundation for improving prevention and treatment of liver disease. We are particularly interested in 1) the molecular defect in protoporphyria 2) intracellular signaling in hepatic proliferation and apoptosis and 3) hepatic fibrosis. These focus areas form the foundation for improving prevention and treatment of diseases of the liver.
