Research
Carl Folke is the science director and co-founder of the Stockholm Resilience Center at Stockholm University. Folke used his Pew fellowship in conservation and the environment to explore and communicate ecosystem values, functions, linkages, and resilience for improved conservation of global biodiversity. He undertook research and writing on the freshwater-ecosystem services link; the spatial resilience and ecosystem services of coral; the links between coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves, and ecosystem services; sustainable aquaculture; the role of plants and animals in ecosystems; and how to link ecosystems and institutions for improved natural resource management and to build resilience. Folke has published numerous articles in professional journals and has produced many concept and planning documents as well as several books.
