The Pew Charitable Trusts’ evidence project catalyzes collective action among philanthropies, public funding agencies, and a diverse array of leaders in government, academia, and civil society to close the gap between research and outcomes.
The project convenes these groups to reimagine how research can inform public policy and address long-standing societal challenges ranging from climate change to health disparities to economic inequity and beyond.
The evidence project accomplishes its goals by:
Harnessing the power of funders: The evidence project created and leads the Impact Funders Forum (formerly the Transforming Evidence Funders Network), a global collective of more than 80 philanthropic and public funding organizations working to ensure that research can deliver impactful solutions. Leveraging the broad representation within the forum, participants take action on systemwide challenges to achieve research impacts that no one funder could accomplish alone. The forum team leads the development of action plans for addressing these challenges, aligns funders to accelerate progress, and lays the groundwork for catalytic investments. Participants also work side by side to hone their funding practices, form new funding alliances, and raise the profile of innovative initiatives.
Cultivating innovation: Around the world, researchers, policymakers, community practitioners, and others are piloting innovations to bridge research, policy, and practice. The forum launched a global platform to support these leaders as they study, test, and scale promising strategies to improve the chances that research and data are used in decision-making. Through a biannual global conference and regular network-building activities, the evidence project has created a go-to space for funders to learn alongside and coordinate efforts with their grantees and other thought leaders across sectors, disciplines, and geographies.
