Chilean Patagonia

The Pew Charitable Trusts is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that uses data to make a difference. Working with other nonprofit organizations, local governments, communities, and universities, Pew supports state and local efforts to:

  • Strengthen management of protected areas in Chilean Patagonia to improve residents’ quality of life and help these areas meet international conservation standards. These standards include effective management and monitoring plans, adequate financing, and strong community involvement.
  • Establish a network of protected areas to conserve interconnected land and marine ecosystems, including coastal waters, fjords, estuaries, and channels between islands.
  • Develop public-private partnerships to help Chile safeguard protected areas, support sustainable local economic development, and meet international commitments such as the “30 by 30” goal to protect 30% of the world’s land and waters by 2030. Additionally, these coalitions work to safeguard the resilience of already protected areas and to support the development of sustainable local economies.
