PROFILE

John Begala is an officer on Pew’s energy modernization project, advancing state and federal research and policy that supports the responsible development of offshore wind as a vital component of the future energy mix.

Before joining Pew, Begala worked at the Oceantic Network as the vice president for federal and state policy. There he focused on building an offshore wind domestic supply chain and connected with federal and state lawmakers to advance economic and job benefits.
Begala also served as the Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Trade in the office of former Virginia Governor Ralph S. Northam; Begala oversaw aspects of the Virginia departments of Energy, Small Business and Supplier Diversity, and Labor and Industry, as well as the Virginia Tourism Corporation. His work in the governor’s office helped guide staffing, regulatory, and legislative decisions. And during the early stages of the pandemic, Begala managed communications between state agencies and local government officials while acting as a legislative advisor to the governor.

Begala holds a bachelor's degree in government from the College of William & Mary.
