Donatien Tanret

PROFILE

Donatien Tanret manages the Pew Bertarelli Ocean Legacy Project’s work in French Polynesia. In this role, he collaborates with local governments, elected officials, and the community to work toward protecting French Polynesian waters and creating rāhui, a reference to the traditional Polynesian practice of restricting access to an area or resource to conserve it.

Tanret has two decades of technical and political experience in biodiversity governance in the French overseas territories. Before joining Pew, he spent 10 years developing environmental and carbon footprint assessments and protected area management plans for local organizations throughout French Polynesia and New Caledonia.

Tanret holds a bachelor’s degree from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and master’s degrees in environmental sciences and geography from the Université de Caen Normandie.
