Pew Urges U.S. House Subcommittee to Support Flood Resilience Requirements

Velma Smith of The Pew Charitable Trusts testified on March 18, 2021, before the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure’s Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management in support of congressional action to better prepare the nation’s infrastructure to withstand flooding and other natural hazards. She emphasized the increasing frequency, intensity, and costs of floods and highlighted the role that nature-based solutions and other mitigation practices can play in strengthening the nation’s roads, bridges, water and wastewater systems, and medical and emergency services facilities.
