The Bristol Bay region is an incredibly valuable ecosystem that supplies nearly 50 percent of the U.S.'s wild-caught seafood and supports thousands of fisheries jobs. This area sustains thriving indigenous traditions that have been practiced for millennia. It also provides habitat for seabird colonies, whales, walrus, seals, myriad fish species, and a massive migration of salmon that returns year after year. And yet, as the federal government starts deciding where offshore drilling will be allowed between 2017 and 2022, this same area could be on the table for leasing.
