On March 8, 2023, The Pew Charitable Trusts joined more than 200 organizations in sending letters to three Congressional committees—the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, House Committee on Ways and Means, and Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions—which are the lead co-sponsors of the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA). PAHPA is bipartisan legislation to prepare and protect the U.S. from natural disasters or biological, chemical, radiological, or nuclear threats. The letters call for including the Pioneering Antimicrobial Subscriptions to End Upsurging Resistance (PASTEUR) Act in PAHPA. PASTEUR would help spur antibiotic development and address the growing threat of antibiotic resistance.
