On Oct. 16, The Pew Charitable Trusts sent a letter to Senators Michael Bennet and Todd Young in support of their recently introduced Pioneering Antimicrobial Subscriptions to End Upsurging Resistance [PASTEUR] Act. The bill would help stabilize the antibiotic market by creating a subscription program for critically needed antibiotics to treat the most threatening infections. In addition to promoting the development of urgently needed antibiotics, the policy would also help ensure that these critical drugs are used appropriately by encouraging and financially supporting the establishment of hospital stewardship programs.
