The Pew Charitable Trusts and MedStar Health sent comments Aug. 10 to the Urban Institute urging it to include additional questions in a proposed survey of providers and their use of health IT, a project that the institute is developing as part of the federal government’s electronic health record reporting program. The program is designed to gather and publish data on how these systems affect health care facilities’ workflow and was one component of the 21st Century Cures Act, which Congress passed in 2016. The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, the federal agency that oversees health IT, has contracted with the Urban Institute to develop the reporting program.
