The Pew Charitable Trusts, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, the American Public Health Association, the Consumer Healthcare Products Association, the March of Dimes, the National Association of County and City Health Officials, and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine sent a joint letter of support in advance of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s markup on May 9 of H.R. 5333, a bill that would reform regulation of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs.
Pew and its partners have supported legislation introduced in the House and Senate as both versions incorporate joint principles for such reform, including eliminating the burdensome rule-making process for changing OTC monographs and allowing for more funding for the Food and Drug Administration through new user fees.
