With registration deadlines rapidly approaching, almost 110 million of the nation’s approximately 225 million eligible voters live in the 20 states that offer online voter registration. Availability of online registration has expanded rapidly in recent years:
Several states launched online registration in 2014, including Georgia, which is also among a growing number of states offering this service on mobile devices. Other states, such as California, have recently updated their systems to provide online registration in more languages.
The following states allow online voter registration: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New York, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia, and Washington. Additionally four states are in the process of building online systems: Hawaii, Massachusetts, Nebraska, and West Virginia.
