Greenpeace Netherlands, the North Sea Foundation and OCEAN2012 have written to the Dutch fisheries minster, Sharon Dijksma, asking her to champion strong legislation on compliance and control and enforcement in the Common Fisheries Policy reform and to ensure adequate funding for data collection and control and enforcement in the European Maritime Fisheries Fund.
The letter came as a response to an accusation by Greenpeace Netherlands that a Dutch herring trawler operating under a German flag had been involved in high grading (a form of illegal fishing where marketable fish is discarded in favor of fish with a higher value).
