Election Officials Provide Updates Using Social Media

While there were stories this morning about voting machines malfunctioning, lines at polling places, and confusion about voter lists, election officials have also used social media to provide updated information and help put these stories in perspective.

In Fulton County, Georgia, the elections office described on Facebook that just three out of 346 precincts, or less than 1 percent, experienced technical difficulties, all of which were quickly resolved.

On Twitter, Orange County, California registrar Neal Kelly, described how most polling places were ready to open on time, and when they found a problem—such as an oversleeping building manager—they improvised and quickly solved the problem.

Also on Twitter, Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller noted almost all polling places in all counties opened on time, with only one not opening on time due to understaffing.
