PROFILE

Shubash Lohani directs global conservation initiatives for Pew, including the Blue Nature Alliance and Enduring Earth. Leveraging more than two decades of experience in the strategic planning, design, and management of large-scale conservation projects around the world, Lohani has successfully fostered and maintained key relationships. He has also built coalitions with academia, government, and nonprofit organizations to deliver greater conservation and social impacts. Lohani strongly believes in a participatory approach to conservation and enjoys working with both local communities and national government leaders. He is passionate about finding new and creative ways to make conservation durable.

Before joining Pew, Lohani spent more than 18 years at the World Wildlife Fund, most recently serving as a senior director. He led initiatives that included protected areas management, species conservation, community-based resource management, restoration, and sustainable financing. Lohani fostered the development of Bhutan for Life, an innovative financing initiative with the goal of permanently safeguarding—and improving the management of—Bhutan’s network of protected areas.

Lohani holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and environmental sciences from Kathmandu University and a master’s in environmental studies from the University of Tokyo.
