Jane Koppelman

PROFILE

Jane Koppelman is a senior officer with Pew’s substance use prevention and treatment initiative, working with state and local policymakers and practitioners to promote evidence-based strategies that prevent opioid use disorder and/or lead to successful recovery from the disease. Previously, Koppelman served for seven years as research director for Pew’s dental campaign, which sought to expand access to dental care for low-income people through state legislative reforms. In that role, she developed a research agenda to support the project’s engagement work and led a team that conducted and commissioned qualitative and quantitative research. She also conducted numerous analyses of Medicaid coverage and spending for oral health, worked with stakeholders in several states on policy reforms, and helped draft legislation.

Before joining Pew, Koppelman worked at George Washington University’s National Health Policy Forum, where she chronicled the health, economic, and family structure factors that lead to poor outcomes for at-risk children, as well as the efficacy of public programs that address these children’s needs. She later served as a senior manager with the Lewin Group, a health and human services consulting firm where she led a team that helped the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services implement a wealth-building initiative for low-income people. As deputy director of a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation national program to expand school-based health centers, Koppelman worked with Medicaid officials and hospital and school administrators to institutionalize a model of bringing health care to low-income children. 

Koppelman holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and journalism from American University and a master’s in public administration from George Washington University.
